What's the deal?

I was recently reading someone's blog who mentioned that they are gong to join the new custom to make her family's blog "private." Now, I may be the only male who follows this blogging stuff and maybe because of that my view is different than many of yours, but I just don't understand the whole "private" blog. I like blogging for the fact that it is fun to see how other people are doing and what they are up to. I have, on several occasions, stumbled on to other friends' blogs through others blogs and it is always interesting to see how they are doing. If everyone makes their blogs "private" then this will stop that real quickly and you will only be able to read about those whom you already know about. Thus canceling out the fun of happening upon old friend's blogs because you weren't personally "invited" by them. And for this reason I am resisting the "private blogging" movement and staying public!

Heath...dare I say that this post is about us? (I feel kinda cool because we have been included in your last two posts :) ha ha) Nonetheless, I don't feel I have a compelling rebuttal. But here is the non compelling rational behind it all... Shouldn't any mom feel a little more secure that their children's photos, children's sayings, & personal feelings are "private" to only those whom she knows? True that people will no longer "stumble" across my blog...there is only hope that they send an email request and say hello anyway (which it prompts automatically). Here is to hoping. But you certainly gave me something to think about... I could be utterly insane after all!
BTW we totally loved hanging out with you guys. I hope our paths get to cross more in the future :)

I have had some of the same thoughts and conversations with other bloggers. I was a little worried at first about having pics of my kids and life, but it is fun to share with others and easily see those whose are public. I just check my stats through feedburner to see who is visiting my blog and feel safe with that. It is nice to see other's blogs without having to officially send them an email or check in with them and it is interesting to see friends of friends blogs just for fun.

I couldn't agree with you more about the blogging thing. We did the private stuff for a while and it was SO boring! Although our reason for going private was different I still couldn't wait to go back to normal. I like having it public because some old friends have stumbled onto it and have said hi. Then I get to look at their blog too. That's way more fun! I'll try to keep it that way if we can. I just keep checking who's looking at us through sitemeter and I'm good with that.

I hear ya! I hate it when I see someone I know and click on there blog and I can't see it! and it has been way to long since I have seen them so I am not going to e-mail them. So I follow your public blogging movement!

I totally agree! If there is info you don't want everyone knowing then don't put it on your blog! And usually if you stumble on someone's blog, you have to know their e-mail to be invited and a lot of times I don't have that!

AMEN!! I totally agree with you! I am also so impressed that you post things on your blog. I still haven't been able to get Andy to post anything. I like to hear from the husbands from time to time. They have a great view on things that we as women might not think about!
